There are socket 771 cpus, which require costly FB-DIMM memory ($$$$) and socket 771 motherboard ($$$). Your ddr2 will not work on these CPUs. And do not expect the socket 771 motherboard to fit in your existing ATX case. Almost all s771 motherboards are Extended ATX form factor. Yes you need more $$$$ for an ugly huge E-ATX case. Many boards only carry up to PCIE 8x slot, forget gaming with these. Basically, these are not a good CPUs for general use.

Since founder Michael Dell reclaimed the chief executive officer role in early 2007, he has closed factories, entered new markets and acquired tech-services company Perot Systems Inc. for $3.9 billion in November.

The company expects that its acquisition of Perot will allow an expansion of its health-care and government services products, company executives said Wednesday.

In the first year of integration, Chief Financial Officer Brian Gladden said, the combined company will mostly be focused on cross-selling Dell's hardware and Perot's services products.

Over the next few years, its health-care offerings will ramp sharply, Mr. Gladden said.

Dell has fallen behind its competitors in personal computers. It now ranks third behind Hewlett-Packard and Taiwan's Acer Inc.

A heads up to would-be buyers:
These are 'Netburst' Architecture based Xeon's NOT 'Core' Architecture based xeons. This means the power usage is between 95-130 watts and about 20-30% less efficent per clock than the Core based processors. Wikipedia Linky [wikipedia.org]

Granted, a server chip for 10.00 is a steal but considering the rest of the hardware is not cheap ($250 for a board alone on newegg, not to mention operating costs of 260 watts of CPU) Costs start to add up pretty qickly.

I'm no mind-reader but I would guess this price is to move product fast, and make room for something that people actually want.

In for two. Maybe I'll build a machine and sell it on craigslist to someone who will either not know the difference or will be happy with the price to performance ratio.

No it won't. Did you see how much it cost for 8GB of memory on Ebay? Abou $250. Also Mobo's cost about $180-$200 + for dual socket boards.
