*DEAD* ASUS GTX460 1 GB GDDR5 ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/1GD5 - $174.99!

*DEAD*

First deal post for me!

I was checking the status of my order of this product and noticed that the price had dropped again to $174.99. I'm still waiting on my order from the last one but here it is at this price again. Amazon says it ships in 2 to 5 weeks. Amazon Prime eligible. Good for those who don't need the card right away.

no, this is a deal for a video card.

cigar deals come around randomly and slickdeals does not allow deal posting of illegal substances.

Amazon originally had this card at $209.99 earlier this month, which is what I bought it for. They then had it for $174.99 for about half a day and then it went up to $229.99. I missed out on the $174.99 last time but was able to get my order adjusted.

That being said, they still haven't shipped the card to me. Expected delivery date of October 6 - October 19. If you don't mind waiting for the card, I'd say it's a good deal. If you need a video card right now, then you probably want to look elsewhere.

amd released their 67xx series specs.... after I saw it, I cancelled my 2 orders of asus 460gtx
http://forums.extremeoverclocking...?p=3779155

Notice that this is only 67xx series, imagine about their 68xx series.... I have to wait lol.

but if you need a card now, then yeah this is very good deal (but with all the waiting.. i don't think its worth it)

AMD did not release those. Its suppose to be a leaked chart. Which could turn out to be a complete fake. Even the forum you link to has people questioning the whole naming scheme.

fox777 09-29-2010 03:10 PM

jesus balls. Still waiting for my card to come that I ordered several WEEKS ago and they are putting more of them out there.

m3th0d 09-29-2010 03:11 PM

Awesome, it ships in like two months. Won't all 460 1 GB be around that price then?

ogb139 09-29-2010 03:29 PM

it just went to 254! FML it was sitting in my cart at 174 while I was reading the reviews and then POOF it's gone!

$254 is ANTOnline's price. You have to to pick the one sold by Amazon on the right "More Buying Choices" sidebar.

I would get this, but I think the rest of my system will be a bottleneck and I don't mind waiting to see the HD6700's.

ogb139 09-29-2010 03:36 PM

Thank y(ou!

Would buy this if Amazon didn't take months to ship this out.

jluva 09-29-2010 03:41 PM

I hope they start shipping them soon. Price to performance ratio is just too good to pass up. I'm trying to convince myself not to order another one for SLI..

no. I bought evga Gtx460 768mb 3 months ago, and it was brand new. They also do not accept returns. I believe most manufacture cards require them not to accept returns. Instead, we return the card to the manufacture and get a replacement.

Whoever are going to jump on the deal because of ati hd6k series. Expect you are going to pay about 5850 price for a 6750 or 6770. Do not expect to pay lower than 200 for those two models. True it might have better performance than a gtx 460. But! by how much? what's the cost per performance?

unless you don't really mind waiting for half a year.. then yes, you should wait even longer for better card.

Fyi, as being said, Amazon does not change you until the card is shipped. So you have plenty time to cancel the order.

ogb139 09-29-2010 04:53 PM

Yeah, I don't understand the ppl saying "wait for the 68xx"...it's going to be a few weeks until they come out and it will for sure be above $200.

The 460s' price will fall then but I doubt it will fall to anything lower than $174.99

All in all, a good investment IMO

doema 09-29-2010 05:05 PM

this is definitely amazon protesting that newegg has inventory (and gouging ppl) and they don't

fuzzytoaster 09-29-2010 05:50 PM

I jumped these last time they were at $174, still waiting for amazon to come through. Totally worth the money. Two GTX460's outperform a GTX480. So win-win.

fully agree... as i'm always the "wait'r hater"

what they dont disclose is the FULL price on new release and limited availablity...and they are usually just reference designs.... we'll see how long after 6xxx launch date that the exotic coolers like MSI's Frozr and dual-fan heat pipes take to reach the market.
This "i'll wait until 6xxx" reminds me of the "i'll wait until intel's new SSD".... so imagine they will have to "wait" longer since intel just annonced a delay until 2011 release. It wont surprise me if AMD is late to their own party also. Time will tell, in the meantime we should have our ASUS gtx460s. :D

How bout this.
Think of it as a free future price option on a commodity.
It will cost you nothing to buy the option. If the commodity price goes up you can exercise your option at your locked in price. If the commodity price goes down you can release the option and not exercise it.

don't speculate and fuel this rumor... if we were in a bar, i'd bet you drinks on me all night if that happens. people say this to feed their desire for it to happen. the more obscured...the more they try to justify the thought. Think like a business, such as Nvidia, rather than thinking like a consumer....then you can better gauge your purchase timings. Nvidia is not going to "drop their panties" just because the 6 series comes out. Why would they?

The people who voted down for the reason of "not a good product" are just ignorant. The product itself is great. Just search for reviews anywhere and you should come to the same conclusion. It has excellent performance with a great cooler. Two of them in SLI will smoke a single GTX480 in almost every game.

It just comes down whether or not you can justify the price right now, given that ATi's next gen cards are coming soon. This is the cheapest I've ever seen a 1GB GTX460, let alone one with a good cooler and factory overclocks.

Stan_Marsh 09-29-2010 09:23 PM

Stupid me for reading up on the card some and then going to buy it only to find it dead. Which was really stupid since it wasn't going to ship anytime soon anyway and could've been cancelled if need be.

nguyen7o4 09-29-2010 09:23 PM

Yep, deal is dead. Not sold by Amazon anymore. Lucky I pulled the trigger. Don't happen to see a GTX460 1GB version for below $200.

well at first they say my item will be ship sep 1- 3 but it didnt so they credit me 15 dollar for the delay i just use it to buy gold box beef jerky dollar :) 20-15= 5 dollar the best way to get credit from amazon would be a delay complain use the email option when u talk to them it better they will reply back more than when you talk on the phone :D

Cool. Ordered and got it for 175 about 1hour ago. It says it will ship around Oct.20 - Nov.2. Ridiculous, but for the price its worth the wait. I can still cancel if I change my mind though between now and then, since they don't charge me. Now--off to do some more window shopping for the rest of my rebuild. :P

Thanks to OP for the nice find though. I love you dearly.

AoDAzrael 09-30-2010 12:46 AM

I went ahead and gave Amazon a call (or rather... they call me I guess due to the way their calling system works). I had an open order on 2x of the DirectCU TOP GTX 460 1GB's back when they were $209.99. They still hadn't shipped it, so I explained the situation to them and about how the price had since dropped by $35.

The service rep said something about how it wasn't in their policy or something to alter prices once orders have been placed? But then immediately afterwards she also said that they were making a 1 time exception due to the circumstances or whatnot. So, hopefully mine ship out in a few days at this price.

fenix8o0 09-30-2010 01:00 AM

whats the warranty on this?

yimnvs 09-30-2010 01:14 AM

"AMD plans to cut prices of the 5000 series prior to the 6000 launch. There is not an exact date specified for the price reduction, but it should be happening within the next month or two."

http://www.neoseeker.com/news/145...-november/

Hope that's true.

Zuke 09-30-2010 01:45 AM

C'mon Son! :shake:

"Son"? How old are you? Let's test that presumption.

I have everything to gain and nothing to lose by re-ordering. You "forgot" to quote that part of what I've said.

The tech sites have already "thought" from Nvidia's side when they printed their articles. Go take it up with them.

Last but not least, how is lowering prices amount to "dropping of panties"? If you want to pick an item of drama out of this purported chain of corporate events you should have mentioned how AMD apparently "dropped their panties" when they saw how good GTX460s are doing in the marketplace, so good that AMD specifically targeted Barts Pro / Barts XT (6750/6770) towards GTX460 768MB/1GB models in their pricing structure... This is from AMD's own powerpoint presentation slides.

Read around a bit before dismissing.

Hope that's true.

Actually, there have already been a lot of "soft" and hard price cuts across the board for the past few weeks. GTX 460's, already very well priced at $200/220, have taken ~$30-50 price drops in most cases. Same could be said of every GPU, really - within the past 3 weeks there've been $385 GTX 480's, ~$275 GTX 470's, and right now there's a 5850 for $229.

Lotta MIR's involved, ofc, but I'm betting that the price drops are probably going to be pretty close to these. Pricing of 6750 and 6770 are going to be very tricky, especially depending on performance. Part of the problem is that if 6770 and 6750 are going to be the only ones released this fall (with 6870 and 6850 pushed back to next year), 6770 and 6750 prices are going to be slightly inflated regardless due to all the people that have been sitting on their thumbs waiting for it.

Something else you have to consider is just how much better is the 6770 going to be than the GTX 460? 10%? 15%? Now if they manage to achieve that at the same price point, how well will they scale in crossfire in comparison to 2 GTX 460's?

JayBabay 09-30-2010 02:39 AM

You know what, here's the deal. I bought one of these just right now because frankly I've been looking for a GTX 460 1GB for about 3 months now and this is a great deal on a very reputable brand with a good factory heatsink. I'm excited about the ATI cards though and think of this as an insurance policy. I have the card at this price but I was planning on waiting anyways.. It doesn't ship for another 5 weeks so I'm just going to keep checking on the ATI cards till I have solid info and if they are significantly better and priced $200 then I will pay more and get a more future proof card. If not I will keep this one.

Quiksmage 09-30-2010 03:10 AM

neteng101 09-30-2010 06:16 AM

gregerish 09-30-2010 06:25 AM

such a good card, really worth the buy for anyone looking to upgrade

Slee_Stack 09-30-2010 06:48 AM

I've read this can OC to 900MHz on the core. I wonder if it can run stable at 1000 on water.

Unfortunately, its too marginal an improvement for me to replace my 4890.

This looks like a fantastic bang-for-the-buck improvement for those with 46xx or 2xx or 88xx cards.

IF you can crossfire, you'd be FAR better off getting another 4870 here for $90. You'll not get DX11, but you'll pay $80 less and have a more powerful setup.

Indio22 09-30-2010 07:51 AM

Is this Asus card already over-clocked from the factory, or simply built to allow for better over-clocking? If the former, would there be more heat and perhaps resulting fan noise, if the card is already over-clocked? Sorry, I am new to this stuff, and trying to determine if this card is going to be using more power and generating more heat than other GTX460 cards. Thanks for any advice. (I plan to run PhotoShop, AfterEffects, and various other freeware video editing solutions, if that matters.)

JPI 09-30-2010 07:58 AM

With tax it comes out to $190.52 for me. Is this price still a good deal for this card?

Phasers 09-30-2010 07:59 AM

How wide is this card? I want to replace my 1.8GB GTX 260 with two of these in SLI, but the slot next to one of my PCI-E slots is occupied so if this is double wide, I'm SOL.

I hate it when people like you spew their uneducated opinions. The reason you sound ignorant is that although you're advocating the American ideal of a "self-made man" you then expose yourself as too stupid to think of an example of one. The difference between Zygrene and Donald Trump is that Trump was born into an elite ruling class family, and that for the last 50 years, upward mobility in the US has taken several generations.

Here is the wiki page on Donald's rich dad.

On Topic: Great deal for a great card. I wish it would fit on my motherboard. Everybody should check to make sure it will fit before buying.

It was in my cart and as I was going through the checkout process (around 10:17 I think) a message came up saying it was no longer available. Not happy - but oh well. Hope it comes back.

Everyone is saying it will take forever to ship. Anyway to beat that with the Free 2-day Super Saver Shipping with Amazon Prime? It said it was eligible but does it not apply for some reason?

I believe the 2-day refers to how long it takes to ship once they have it in stock and send it to you. I ordered it with prime and in 2-5 weeks they'll get it to me in 2 days :-(

Yes, unless you're talking about the ones in China and Taiwan, where motherboard and card OEM leaks happen.

It's nothing out of the ordinary until you consider when was the last time specific model numbers are used that way in a presentation. It's not a propoganda-styled bar graph, but a marketing plan. Do you look before you wave, or is it just a thoughtless habit?

When in the history of the human race have any prophet of any kind used the word "might" to describe the timing instead of "will" in their "prophecy"? Why did I do what I did? Also, what did I say I did? I wonder if you absorbed the whole post, or just the version in your head.

Hands down this is the best deal I've seen for a 1GB 460, though I personally think the PNY XLR8 GTX 465 with Mafia 2 and Just Cause 2 for $168 was better than this, considering the lifetime warranty. Not opening up debate about 465 vs. (1GB)460 - though fundamentally different pieces of hardware, at this price range they're both excellent cards and an excellent value.

I'm not sure how much lower they can be discounted, though; I think what we're seeing with these awesome prices is a preemptive move to clear out inventory before the AMD cards potentially undercut them, which could force the cards to be liquidated at a loss. Obviously this is pure speculation on my part - I really don't care too much about the reasons, I'm just happy the prices are getting in line with reality!

And hooray for Amazon - to hell with waiting for shipping, I'd rather buy from them over the 'Egg any day of the week!

I got in on the GTX465 deal but the rebate was a PITA. I think it came out to $10 more overall (tax, a $5 free to receive the rebate faster) than this deal. I only got Mafia 2 since I ordered too early but ended up giving that away. It was a better deal but this isn't bad either.

Amazon just announced that this is a pricing error. I've placed this order a few weeks ago, and it just got cancelled.

Got the exact same e-mail for my order about 1 minute ago. I ordered mine the first time, about 2-3 weeks ago. I think all the people buying the card for the past 24 hours alerted Amazon to the price mistake. Thanks, guys, JEEZ.

WTF , ordered it 2 weeks ago and NOW then they discovered the price error!

TheMadMule 09-30-2010 01:33 PM

I just got that email too. They had the freaking nerve to even post it at the $175 price again before finally admitting it was a pricing error?

I'm going to launch an unholy verbal assault comparable to WWII on their customer service tomorrow.

Wow. So, Amazon, are we to believe that the price was lowered to that point on accident..twice?! Sucks that they canceled your order. I wonder if they are cancelling all the orders.. :(

Hell, I had my order placed since September 15th.

It looks like Amazon won't even carry the cards anymore, but I demand to know why they let us wait this long before going "Oh whoops, too bad, sorry."

rexlu 09-30-2010 01:42 PM

:(

Just got a cancel order notice from Amazon due to price mistake.

jluva 09-30-2010 01:42 PM

I'm sincerely sorry everyone. Had I known that it was a price mistake to begin with, I would not have posted it.

[QUOTE=ancienterf;32924273]I hate it when people like you spew their uneducated opinions.

You just darted at a wrong point, and I accept that donald "the boy with the silver spoon" is a wrong example,...so, let's try conan o or weird al or let's try you ancienterf. My point is,...get those brain cells and muscles busy to get this card or whatever you want. My family WAS poor in a third world country but they work their butts out to provide us what we needed and wanted. Now I'm giving back to them the fruits of their labor. Knowing that there are bums here in US just makes me cringe.

Going back to the topic, this deal is great for those who can wait. The price may fall next quarter but probably not at this price. Well. it's too late, it looks dead. Ohh...price mistake...hahaha =)

I got a Gigabyte OC GTX460 seating in my house and probably return it to Microcenter tomorrow and get this Asus from Newegg instead. The review and test result of this Asus is better than Gigabyte's.

I was just looking at the latest issue of MaximumPC, and they gave the Gigabyte GV-N460OC-1GI GTX 460 a 9/10, KickAss rating ($220 on Newegg). Unfortunately, they compared it to the 768mb Asus card with a 192-bit memory bus, rather than an "apples-to-apples" comparison with the Asus card in this deal.

Can you provide the link you found comparing the Asus to the Gigabyte?

UPDATE: Just looked, my order was canceled also. Disappointing that Amazon doesn't even offer a coupon or anything to make up for their mistake.

saxman 09-30-2010 02:01 PM

Just got the amazon cancellation email as well. Had put two on order for SLI yesterday... guess it's back to waiting on a slick price again.

fox777 09-30-2010 02:02 PM

Are you kidding my ballz???? OMGWTFBBQ... I ordered this card at this price 3 weeks ago. Then they lower the price and allow other people to backorder it yesterday and now they are sending me email saying it is canceled??? WTF AMAZON...

P.S Amazon is one of my favorite merchants but this move was ridiculous... ALSO, I let about 4-5 deals on GTX 460 from other vendors float by because I was waiting for this shizzle..

PPS I had every single component to build my PC except GPU since about month ago..

hitek_man_vn 09-30-2010 02:05 PM

hehe sorry the carrying ship was kidnapped by Nigerian pirates...

jluva 09-30-2010 02:09 PM

Mine from the 13th got cancelled as well. I really wanted that card but can't justify spending $240 for it. Guess I'll have to stick with what I've got until prices come down some more.

Wow. This is going to be fun. I wonder what would the people at Hardforums who had waited for months already for this card. Let me go over there and watch the fun...

Edit: Here you go. Have a fun read http://hardforum.com/showthread.p...29&page=12

Edit 2: Somebody said that he ordered the card for $210 and they wouldn't even ship it at that price. 'Doh. This is rope-a-dope, and I guess I'm one of the dopes.

Edit 3: Another person reported getting a $15 "we're sorry" certificate.

Edit 4: If you haven't gotten a cancellation email, check your Amazon account and you'll see that the order is gone.

Edit 5: There was one guy who ordered on August 6th and got his order cancelled anyways. OUCH

Yeah not a big deal. This card as well as others will be CHEAPER VERY soon. So you can actually say that you got lucky that you didn't overpay ;)

Stan_Marsh 09-30-2010 03:56 PM

Cancelled... what a joke. They could at least maybe say they don't have sufficient stock instead of calling it a pricing error when they post it at that price multiple times over several weeks.

I just feel sorry for the people who ordered early August (earliest I've seen was August 6th) and still got their order cancelled. Two months, two delivery date moves, and still cancelled.

Actually I don't really need the second GTX460 for SLI. I just thought "Gee it would be cool if..."

Now I'll just wait another 2 months to buy something I don't really need

fuzzytoaster 09-30-2010 03:59 PM

for those who need a card GTX460 at a great price it's 768MB though.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6814500173
link fixed.

$129 After rebate

Slee_Stack 09-30-2010 06:52 PM

This is an odd move by Amazon. Even if it is truly a pricing error, it can't be that big of a one. It's not like this was accidentally posted for 50% off or something. They should have honored the price and delivered.

They would have lost maybe $10 a card. Big whoopee.

Core2Quad 09-30-2010 06:57 PM

Friggen Amazon and their bull shit! I'm really pissed this was a great deal and was not outragious. They should have still honered it.... Price mistake multiple times... right...

faiz_23 09-30-2010 07:18 PM

people i am pissed and i mean pissed i missed this deal and really want to find a deal on this card and i am glad i missed it but i still want a deal on this card. What can we work out on this card and other links to get it under $200

saiyanx 09-30-2010 07:47 PM

im soo piss off right now waited 2 month and all the price was a mistake
aug 8- oct
210 ===mistake
175 ===month ago mistake
175 == 3 day ago mistake

WTF is wrong wit amazon

dirtrat 09-30-2010 07:52 PM

I feel sorry for that poor supervisor! I gave her both barrels! Thx for waisting my time and taking almost two months to tell me it was a pricing error. I will be rethinking my future purchases at Amazon after this!

Daggerfall 09-30-2010 07:59 PM

Chances are very high that it isn't actually a price mistake.

I've gotten 4 pretty obvious price mistake items shipped from Amazon in the last few months.

Plus even people who have ordered the card at $210 couldn't get theirs shipped (Theres really no way $210 for that card is price mistake).

What is most likely happening is that Amazon isn't going to be getting as many (or any) of those Asus graphics cards, and decided to be like Dell posting BS excuses instead of telling the real reason for cancellation.

And in the meantime.... WTB graphics card deal that doesn't involve 10% CA tax...

fuzzytoaster 09-30-2010 08:12 PM

Sent amazon an email stating my disapproval of their method of handling this event. Response as follows.

I wonder who was in charge to put this price online and clearly made the same mistake more than twice. They should get rid of that person. 175 a price mistake? yeah right!
3 months after, they might beg you to buy this card at this price.

Zuke 09-30-2010 09:26 PM

Yep, I got the same damn email canceling my order!

Very disappointed in Amazon. They must have something that alerts them to too many orders for a highly discounted item, so that they can correct this "mispriced item". Bunch of BS!

This is the first bad experience I've had with Amazon in 10 years. And it's a doozy.

I guess we'll know for sure what REALLY happened soon. I called and had a lengthy chat with a rep and they basically told me something completely different - that they simply had no stock. She put up a whole bunch of theories about why it might've happened - i.e. ASUS and Amazon disagreeing on what the price should be and them not knowing when they might get any stock whatsoever period.

If Amazon starts selling the ASUS DirectCU TOP 1GB GTX 460 again for a higher price in the next week or so we'll know that they're just throwing out BS to avoid having to ship out "under priced" product.

dookie11 09-30-2010 09:50 PM

So bummed. It was too good to be true. Another case of amazon being shady. Watch your credit cards guys...It feels so fishy.

Also, did your guys' amazon accounts just have the order ERASED? Like it never happened? Mine's like that. I was expecting for the order number to still be there, with a "cancelled" message or something next to it, but it's just gone completely. Tell me that I'm not the only one...

LaeZBum 09-30-2010 09:56 PM

My order was completely gone, but the CSR knew about the order I was calling about.

fenix8o0 09-30-2010 11:45 PM
