Here's some important info on using these:


When I went this morning this was not the case my OOP was abt $7 because they honored the 5 of 20 (my total was orig. ~$21) and then I had some MFR Coupons....so the above may be incorrect....

My experience at Walgreens has been to use Register Rewards first, then other coupons. The RR are manufacturers coupons that essentially attach to everything, so any other coupons set off the dreaded beep. But if I have valid, obvious individual manufacturers coupons, then those very rarely even get questioned, just over-rided. When the RR beeps, the ladies sometimes tell me that 'this is only good for Proctor and Gamble stuff', which is the company that issued it. That is not the case, but I usually have to call a manager to decipher it for her. He's usually ticked he had to take the time to READ the coupon to her, so I end up with one more cashier that gives me the evil eye when I walk in... (That coupon lady!) ALSO, if the same company is issuing a RR (even for a different product), by using a previous RR, you don't get the new RR that should print out. I had a manager re ring my order to get the new RR to print out, then void the order. Wierd huh?

All that said, I'm not really sure where to work in overall store coupons like this. I guess I'll find out. Probably first so all the coupon action doesn't cause the system to have a math seizure!

you only get 1 rr per transaction. so this won't work. you will only get 6 dollars in rr.

they had there brand pull ups 2 for 11.98 normally 7.99 a pack which tehy run they sale quite a bit
and they marked down some more cosmetic physicians formula baked eyeshadows a trio to 4.19 some had the 1.00 off coupons on them making them 3.19.
wet n wild lip things look like lipsticks go on like gloss or osmthing 1.59 each only had 3 left

Yes, that's the scenario.

Hm, based on experience with these $/$$ q's at Walgreens in December, let me offer a little advice...

Walgreens will go by the $20 amount. So, if your total, pre-tax, goes under $20, the $5 credit from this coupon will not come off. This happened to me when I was trying to use a manufacturer's coupon to make my oop lower, like those of us who shop at CVS do. I did figure out, trial & error, that Walgreens would take a previously earned Register Reward against the total.

So you can plan on your oop on the transaction to be $15 plus tax, unless they changed their system in the last month, or you get a really nice cashier or manager to intervene.

Yes you can! When they did this around Christmas-time, I had them scan the $x off $xx first. Then I had them scan the other coupons. Everything goes through fine.

Be creative! Have the printed coupon out, hand it to them as soon as they finish scanning, then fumble in your pockets for your manuf. coupons and 7day coupons and EZ saver coupons.

As long as they scan the $5/$20 first you are good - just don't get too happy and get in the negative!!! Make sure to pay *something* :)

I love the idea of using this when buying stamps!!! does anyone recall in what quantity walgreens usually sells stamps? do they usually sell them in "books" of 20 for $8.20 ? If they do, then you could buy 3 books for $24.60 - $5 coup for $19.60. This would be the best price anywhere for stamps!

I know someone else just posted this, but there seems to be more questions.
IF this works the same as the $5/20 coupons before Christmas, you will probably have trouble getting below $15 +tax.
Yes, the machine takes off the $5/20 if you hand it too them first, but if you give them more coupons and your total goes below the required $20 purchase, it will back off the $5 discount.
At least it was doing that before with the old ones.

Example:
3 Pepsi 12pks $10
1 bag Lays $1.79
Rice Krispies $1.99
Hormel Chili $.99
Quilted Northern $5.50
Brawny $5.50
----------------------------------
Total before any coupons: $25.77
Walgreens $5/20 coupon takes it down to $20.77
Then, if you give them $.75 off Kelloggs, .25 off Hormel, $1.50 off Brawny, $1.50 off Quilted Northern, $2 off Pepsi, $.50 off Lays, your total will go below the required $20, so the register reverts back to the original total.

NOW, I do not know if that is the way that it will work this time, but it was doing it around Christmas. (You can probably find old threads about it)
BUT, there are still some great deals to be had with this.
We can only hope that the register does not do that again.

My Walgreens charges more than the cost of the stamps! Still would be a good deal, but I think they are like $9 and some change for 20 of them here.
I know I was upset after buying them there once, and did not think they could mark those up.

Based on my experience before Christmas, I have to disagree.

I agree, this is what I posted earlier. If you give the 5/20 first, the $5 comes off. But if your pretax total goes below $15, after giving manufacturers coupons, the $5 that came off is added back on. Once it gets to $15 pretax, the only things you can give them to pay with is cash or a Register Receipt (if you have one). That is the only 'coupon' their registers would allow.

Even for those of us who have and actively shop CVS, this is a great deal - use it to buy the FAR items available, or one of the Register Receipt deals. I will likely visit several Walgreens stores tomorrow.

Where are the Chapstick coupons?? I feel like I should know but I don't. Is the Chapstick deal with RR still going on this week?

Right. But buy the Chapstick with the Gillette Fusion (9.99 w/ 6.00 RR) and a FAR item to get to $20, and you'll spend about $16 oop, get $8 in RR back immediately and then have a rebate item to send in for.

Note that generally speaking, you cannot use the RR from the Chapstick to buy another Chapstick and get a RR, but you can buy another Chapstick, without the first Chapstick RR, and get a RR - as long as your cashier will allow it.

Legally they can't. Stamps are a form of legal tender. They can't sell $1 for $1.10. Turn them in!

You will only get $2 in RR for the chapstick. You cannot buy more than 1 at a time and the rr does not roll. If you buy another chapstick and use the RR, it will not print you another one.

Not true. I've done it in the past. I had to argue with the cashier and manager say it's OK as long as it scans. There are no restrictions on Walgreens' $5 off $20 saying about the total MUST be $20 after the use of manufacturers' coupons. It's clear cut. They worded poorly and I maximize the advantage.

Just used it with no problem. I bought baby formula, and got a fleece go diego go blanket free. lol

(my 6 mo is sick. He actually watches cartoons... The nut really didn't fall far from the tree. Hopefully with him I can get him to love Iron man like i do. My silly 3 yo is all about thor and thing... Thor and thing are dumb!)

I did all the free rebate stuff.
then i did two books of stamps for 8.40 and the 3 trial size axe.

No clearance AXE left but this worked out okay.

They only had the deodorant so it was 1.99 each so for less than 2 bucks I got a movie ticket.

I didnt look to see if they charged tax on stamps.

Cashier won't let me use the 5/20 on the discounted BIGIF Walgreen glucosamine.

From what I can see on the website 1 cost $19.99 so you would need a filler item to make it to $20. Other than that there is no reason you can't use it for the glucosamine. I would ask for a manager. The coupons does not exclude medication.

I am calling corporate to complain about a manager accusing me of coupon fraud and being abrasive. If the coupon had said as much, I wouldn't have tried to use it. If he had said as much and not taken it, I wouldn't have been upset. He went from 'gee this isn't working' to 'you know, it is a crime to alter a coupon, I shouldn't give this to you because it is fraud, that's 5$ out of my store's pocket'.

Thanks OP, used 2 different coupons with 2 different transactions, I could have used 1 more $5/20 because I was calculating the post coupon price for my items and just printed out 2, lesson learned always print out more than you think you will use. Also I should have done the transaction with the RR first and then apply it to the second purchase. Oh well, live and learn.

hersheys whips BOGO coupon + walgreens 3/$1 kinda worked....it's $2/1, so 6 for $3 - $1 with walgreens coupon - $.69 for original price of whips. So instead of 6 for $1, it's 6 for 1.31

As I reported on the first page, and linked in the wiki, the 5/20 coupon at Walgreens requires a pre-tax, post-manu/WG coupon subtotal of $20 in order to work. As the cashier was trying to apply a WG coupon that wasn't working, she voided off the two items, so she could re-ring them at the correct price. Sure enough, when she did this, the $5 voided itself off. Once the total was at $20 again, she scanned the coupon and it worked.

I did this deal 4 separate times at three different WG and although I spent a little out of pocket each time, I am very happy with all I got for the price.

The forms are online at walgreens.com or you could have picked up a booklet at the store.

The rebate form is in a monthly rebate booklet. You can find it on display near the weekly ads in the store.

If you're doing WG FAR deals, definitely take their gift card. They'll give you 10% more on an item, which as far as I see it makes me money, since tax is @8%. Of course, you have to use the gift card at WG, but it always works out for me.

There are a couple of things that everyone should be aware with the $5 off $20 coupon or any other $x off $xx coupons that could possibly come in the future.

First, make sure your pre-tax dollar amount is over $20.
Second, make sure the $5 off $20 coupon is scanned first after all of the products have been scanned.
Third, scan all other coupons.
Fourth, the coupon says excludes "alcohol, tobacco, gift cards, prepaid cards, and items prohibited by law." However, it doesn't state that it cannot be used for the following items: dairy products, postage stamps, photo services, printer cartridge refills, money orders???, gift certificates???, licenses???, mailing services???, etc.

The items with ??? means I don't know if Walgreens sells them or not. Also, I do know that you could buy stamps with this coupon. Also, when you buy the stamps along with other items to meet the $20, your sales tax will be really low or even negative. I believe that stamps aren't taxable.

I was able to use this coupon with a total of 22.51 making it 17.51 and then I proceeded to give them my MFQ and one ESQ and my total was $8.00 out the door. Thanks a ton! =o)

I got 3 packs of stamp for $24.60 then use $5 off and $6 RR and 2x $2RR so the total OOP was: $11.60 (for 60 stamps). (actually the RR is considered my money, so I just saved $5 only).

I should have bought another 3 packs to use up my $2RR.
Oh well......

spent an hour or so preparing to use this coupon and just getting close to the $20 worth of stuff. I had about 10 manuf. coupons and 3 Walgreens coupons. After the cashier rang up the stuff, she showed me a letter from "Corporate" that said the $5 could only be taken off AFTER the rest of the discounts and coupons were added in.... I had spent an hour and a half fighting a toddler down the aisles and stood in line and when she gave me that baloney, I just left my stuff on the counter and told her that Walgreens had lost my business.... They are getting paid from the coupon companies to take the coupons... CVS here I come !

I went to CVS and got all the ECB stuff and the Colgate products for that rebate and made out with $18 extra in ECB... and no out of pocket after ECB's. love CVS !

The copied info in the WIKI is what happened to me last night when I went to buy some things. I had items that I was buying with their 7-day coupons and their Easysaver coupons and I had some Mfg. coupons. My total was $22 - gave her the $5 off $20, went down to $17, as soon as she scanned the 7-day coupons, it voided the $5/20 coupon. THAT'S CRAP!!!

I think if you were buying items and only using Mfg. coupons, it probably would have worked, just not using their coupons.

I should have asked her to take the $5 off at the end since the coupon didn't stipulate it must be $20 AFTER using their coupons. I didn't because I don't like to be a PITA and she was at the mercy of the system. She was really nice and said she had worked there for 5 years and never had one of those coupons do that. I bought some of the Revlon stuff, so I had an overage, I should have used the $3 Revlon coupon that didn't really apply to the product as my way around it to save a little more. With coupons and theirs, I spent $12. I had maybe $2 overage with the Revlon stuff. So frustrating.

I think I'll write Walgreen's a letter telling them they shouldn't have stipulations on their money off coupons - it will only make the customer mad and not shop there again.

It is too bad people has problems with the coupon. It will only auto-void if your PRE-tax, POST-Walgreen's Coupon, PRE-Manufacturer Coupon total dips below the $XX specified in the coupon.

I used it and bought the Garnier Shampoo, Chapstick Natural, the Gillete Fusion Phenom, and 3 $1.59 AXE Body Wash. My Total was 20.75 + tax. I used the $5 off $20, $1 Garnier Manu Q, $1 Chapstick Manu Q (expired), $2 Fusion Manu Q. Paid $12.xx out the door. Received $2 and $6 Register Rewards, EMovieCash Certificate for a free movie, and have the reciept for the Garnier ES Rebate. Basically I will end up paying nothing for the stuff and go to the movie for free.

Back in Dec it was auto-voiding and I figured out it was because I had a Walgreen's coupon for diapers. I added a Carmex or something from the checkout line and had them add it back in and it worked fine. After that they kept scanning manu q's and I paid about $10 OTD then too.

I had a good time using this coupon yesterday. The first trip I bought the Chapstick Naturals, Phenom, Garnier Shampoo ($1.00 coupon), and Maybelline Lip Plump. Paid $17.xx after coupon and got back $8.00 in RR (could not find the travel size Axe - ewww anyway!). Second trip I ended up with two Alka Seltzer Day Night (two $2.00 coupons for these), Revlon 2008 Limited Edition eye shadow (very excited about this since I haven't been able to find these in CVS yet - $2.00 Supersaver coupon and $1.00 MFQ), two Speedstick 24/7 deodorants (BOGO coupon), and two Life Waters (I wanted another Chapstick but this store was totally out - had three clerks looking all over for it too :( ). I then used all my coupons, the 5/20, and my prior $8 RR and ended up paying $9.XX and got another $3.00 RR back. Not quiet as good as CVS, but I will still get a rebate with three of the items so I'm not complaining.

Got some of the FAR stuff and basically got a 12 roll pack of TP for free thanks to the coupon. Cool.

Picked up some Claritin-D and some Ivory bar soap for about 17 and change out the door.
