Actually, there are a few recievers that allow upconversion from component to the reciever to HDMI to the TV.

I wonder how these upscaling receivers work. The Wii itself doesn't have HDMI output, so i'm guessing output w/ component cable to the receiver, and then upscale it output w/ HDMI?

Haven't seen the article but that sounds about right.

So the Wii can be upscaled to 1080p.... What's the benefit? It doesn't make the graphics any better.

Yeah, the graphic's still bad quality... but I think upscaled 1080p graphic will look better on a 60' TV compared to 480p.

Aren't blocky graphics half the allure of games with giant bobblehead cartoon characters?

No it isn't. Upscaled to 1080p isn't true 1080p. If it were we wouldn't have hd dvds or blu-ray movies with 30-50 gigs of space. We'd just upconvert our sd 4-8 gig dvd movies to 1080p.
