Rock Island Armory 1911A1 - Starting at $329 + Shipping + FFL transfer fees
Sarco Inc [sarcoinc.com] has Rock Island Armory 1911's starting at $329 for the G.I. model. These are very solid guns that are true to the original form. I own two of them and have never had any issues.

http://bbqwtf.com/sd/ria1.jpg

The Tactical model is a steal at $389. It has quite a few upgrades over the G.I. model that are well worth the extra 60 bucks.

http://bbqwtf.com/sd/ria2.jpg

They also have a line of compact pistols as well, if you don't want a full-sized gun.

M1911.org [m1911.org] has a sub-forum dedicated to Armscor/Rock Island made 1911's. Do some reading and you'll find that they are very well made and respected in the 1911 community.

As with any firearm purchased online, you'll need to go through a local FFL dealer to receive the firearm.

Edit: Sarco is unable to sell at this time. However, Centerfire Systems [centerfiresystems.com] carries Rock Island Armory 1911s as well.

Great price. The 1911 is truly a fantastic gun. I was looking at a Taurus 1911 the other day for about $400 and thinking about how good of a deal that was. Of course, the Taurus has a grip safety as well ast the external safety, but for some that is a non-issue.

Uh...

ALL 1911s have had a grip safety since ... darn, when was that ... Oh yeah! 1911!

(including the RI)

It's part of John M Browning's original and dang-near perfect design!

Sorry, but I can't let someone make Taurus sound like an innovator at the expense of old man Browning, the father of modern firearms!

My carry weapon is still a Glock, but I've definitely grown to love the 1911 platform. Especially for the price RIA 1911's go for - I couldn't justify spending the cash for Wilson Combat, STI, etc I just don't think they offer that much more for the premium.

Yes indeed keep these gun deals coming... Anyone know where to get quality low cost .45 ammo to go with this deal? I can't afford to shoot .45's now... I've been shooting my glock 17 more than my 21... Pretty soon I'll be shooting only my .22lr since it's only $11.25 for a box of 550 rounds at Wal-Mart...

Thanks OP Repped!

www.gun-deals.com [gun-deals.com] has an ammunition deals search, similar to Pricegrabber.

I ended up buying a Sig Mosquito .22lr a few months ago so I could extend my range sessions without having to get a second mortgage... Reloading may be in my future though. Shooting .22lr just doesn't seem as fun. lol

Would a gunshot wound to the head from one of these kill instantly or ... ? Your feedback is appreciated, thanks!

Quite the post.

With the correct ammo, there wouldn't be much left of the back of your head.

I had a cheap Norinco 1911 for many years and it was a great gun. I upgraded to the Smith&Wesson 1911 and was very happy with it as well. I ended up trading it and some point and regret I ever did. The 1911 is such a great design and such a great gun.

Federal Firearms License. An FFL is the guy that the gun shop sends the gun to. You go to the FFL and do the paperwork, then the FFL transfers the gun to you.

I seem to be having trouble hunting info down today. Anyone know why the hi-cap is banned in Ohio? All I could find were some city laws in Cleveland and Columbus but they were struck down as unconstitutional.

I've seen hi-cap mags at gun shows but maybe they are pre-ban?

Sorry if this is kind of OT
