In the fine print......

you will receive a free trial pair of lenses so that you can see how you look in the color you selected. The lenses have no prescription power.

So then, how can you see how your eyes look of you need prescription contacts to see? Hmm...not so smart these people are who make these I think, unless they're just marketing them to peeps who want colored eyes, not colored prescription contacts.

it's probably cheaper to make and easier to stock one-size-fits-all color trials, then those who like them buy prescription lenses

Most likely optomotrists/opthalmologists have non-prescription trial pairs in various sizes laying around in their sample cabinet...so after your checkup, if you ask for a sample (with or without coupon, by the way...just say you're thinking about getting color contacts, but want to see if they'll make you look ridiculous or not first), they'll get a sample pair in your size and help "fit" you (a.k.a. watch you stick them in your eye, and then make sure they're comfortable). The big lens companies give partner eye care professionals lots & lots of samples in various sizes (and in the case of regular corrective contact lenses, different prescription strengths) and ask the doctors to give them out for free to interested parties, in hopes of getting people hooked & converting them to customers.

In summary, you most likely (99.9% sure) don't need to sign up to score a free pair of contacts from your eye doctor. When I went to get a checkup & stock up on disposable contacts, the opthalmologist had samples in my size & power, so she asked if I was interested in trying some new brands...I walked out of there with a few free pairs, and ended up ordering a year's worth of one of them.

I signed up for this crap before too... never came. Guess I never knew I had to go to the optometrist to pick it up. I never even got a response.

usually i slack and wat to go to the eye doctor until i'm out of contacts and there's a 5 week wait. they'll always give me a few pairs of samples to tide me over until my appointment
