DEAD: WinRAR Free on Sunday, the 30th

Yep, I have had the free version of winrar installed on my puter for years. I only ever use it when I download a .rar file of something and I need to decompres it. It works perfectly for that for free, always.. If you want to do other things with winrar, then maybe you need the full version. I haven't needed it in over 10 years and I have to say that I very rarely run into .rar files. Once or twice a year at best. The only reason I keep it is because there are one or two files on my PC for programs that I LOVE and everytime I have to reinstall and they are .rar files. Otherwise I wouldn't even have it on my PC.

Not threadcrapping... just giving my opinion.

It's free for decompressing always. It's no different then winzip. Free for decompresing. If you wan to use it to COMPRESS, then you may want to try it.

After numerous attempts (a lot of F5 refreshes) I finally(!) got a small file downloaded name rarkey.rar. Being so short, I thought I was SOL on this SD. This can't be WinRAR!

After reading this thread and googling WinRAR I went to www.rarlab.com and downloaded WinRAR 3.51. To test it out to see if it was working I needed a rar file. So for the fun of it I went back to that odd rarkey.rar and uncompressed it (un-rared it?). Hmmm, interesting new development entitled rarreg.key. Clicking on it didn't do much and terminated in an error message too.

Nextly in WinRAR I click Help--About and I'm now a registered user. Wow.

yes, you must have the program installed first. all of the keys are the same. if one were to save this bit of text in notepad

and save it as "rarreg.key" with the quotes. and file type as ALL FILES---then place the file in your winrar program file. they might save themselves alot of time.

because you can multi part rars so then you can transfer them and if you loss connection to the person you can resume the last part.
