how many packages have you guys received, total?
[REMOVED] Due to the false claims that people are getting from Consumerist.com
Steps to dispute Buy's "incorrect" charge to ur CC:

- 1st confirm that buy has charged the "incorrect" amount to your CC - flip to back of ur CC; there should be 800#. call n listen to the recent transactions

- if they charge u "incorrectly", select the option for dispute (AmEx has it). if not, just get operator on

- give'em ur details n the "correct" amount u agreed to pay to buy. screen shots or copies of receipts will help.

good luck all!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steps to dispute Buy's "incorrect" charge to your Bank of America Checkard/Creditcard/etc. :

- 1st confirm that buy has charged the "incorrect" amount to your CC - flip to back of ur CC; and call the phone# (on the back of your card)
- It is best to call from the phone that your card is assigned with, for easier verification.
- Press 0 once you hear the choices they state
- You will be asked to enter the last 4 digits of your SSN#
- when confirmed that you are calling from the same number assigned with BoFA and your SSN# you get access to your account
- at anytime just say "associate".
- Verify your first and last name and your mother's maiden name
- Explain the issue. You will be transferred to claims
- Verify your account number the unauthorized charge was made on first and last name, and mother's maiden name.
- Be ready to tell them the amount overcharged and the amount you agreed to pay
- YOU MUST HAVE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION- otherwise BofA will tell you it's between you and the merchant
-Remember to call buy.com first, and then tell them that they refused to give you the advertised price and practically told you "tough luck."
- After all info verified you will be given a claims# and a place to fax your documentation. The CSR will give you further infromation.
good luck all!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another option to consider

Close the credit card account. They will issue you a new account and will send you an affidavit where you need to circle the charges that you dispute and send the confirmation emails showing the actual charges. They will take care of them. And Buysh*t.com wont be able to charge you anymore. (They would need to ask you for your permission to do so.)

Yeah, give them another credit card number. After all, they've been so responsible with them... giving you a timely notification of extra charges two weeks after the fact.

I sure hope people don't send ridiculous things to that fax number. That would be bad.

I did some research and w/o your SSN and an agreement in advance, they can't report you to credit reporting agcency. Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act requires companies to give notice if they're going to use your credit history against you, either to request one to view or to put something on it. If you read your utility (electric, water, or phone etc) bill, you see there's a clause about this in case you fail to pay. There's no such thing disclosed when you submit order at Buy.com They can pass your info to collection agency to harrass you but that's illegal in many states unless they got a court judgement or you agreed to it in advance.

It's quite funny that Buy.com go to this lenghty process, sending email, return shipping label just to recover few $15's..... Well, they should get back a few orders because there are some people got scared but that ain't worth the effort and bad publicity.

I would guess that auto-sending the e-mails got them thousands of delivery refusals, merchandise returns, or additional $15-ses. It takes little to send e-mails. The return, for them, was probably astronomical on their BLUFF.

Make a photocopy of a ten dollar and five dollar bill together, and fax them that. Isn't that what they want?

That's illegal by law.
