The original deal is dead, but Woot has them up for sale again today (10/15/07) at the same price, at least until they sell out of them: http://www.woot.com/

THIS DEAL IS NOW DEAD!!!

use this link [woot.com]

If you're having trouble getting the Zune software to detect the Zune when installing it your computer, make sure that you slide the lock switch on the top of the player to the "off" position. Otherwise it won't power up and be detected.

Hey, cheapskates: don't forget your credit! Some of our own "early adopters" may have missed our follow-up Zune event, Open Letter spoof and all. Make no mistake, though, all buyers at $149 have real $10 credits on their accounts, ready to use on any sale over $40. Your discount code is BUMPYROAD. (Before you ask, yes, it will work on the VIP Zune sale, 2 magnums of Polyphemus, 3 yet-to-be-reckoned Woot tees, or anything else you can find that we sell for more than $40.)

How to turn this unit off: Hold Back + Down, DO NOT hold the play button, it put the unit in sleep mode, if you are not gonna use it for more than 30 min, i suggest turn it off.

The software version 1.0 or 1.1 is VERY VERY buggy, and if you're using window XP SP1 or lower thhey will refuse to update = screwed, you can not use the 1.1 version, it's extremely buggy and it'll piss the shit off you. Update to 1.4 (the latest version) is gonna be the best solution.

Organizing music: My music is very disorganize, i'm old school, all the files have mess up name tags, I sort my music by file names (window file names, it's much easier than name tag). However with players like this, it sucks ball, so the best way to organize them is by play list (in substitute for folders).

How to work the software: The right pannel lets you drag/drop, it will modify play list and has the option to "transfer". just drag it in there and transfer, screw the library, that thing just annoy the crap out of you.

There's a registry mod to let the unit appear on your computer as a "hard drive". But you can only delete files, you simply can not add files in there. defeat the purpose for me so i'm not even gonna touch it.

Refurb Black Zune 99.00 @ Woot..& possible wootoff this Friday???

Hello Zune Wooters,

Thank you for supporting the amazing new social ecommerce entertainment web community 2.0...er, well, thanks for picking up the cheap Zune deal at Woot.com the other day. We hope you are enjoying it as much as we enjoy your cash. We have some updates just for you:

First, as many of you may have heard yesterday, your Zune woot just got better - Microsoft will offer automatic software upgrades to improve the functionality and feature set of the Zune(s) you own. Yes, you heard correctly - Microsoft. Early-adopter support. Whoa. You can be assured that Woot staff will stay tuned and report the amazing developments in this area-for now, we're consolidating all previous Zune threads to the latest sale here. Please share any information you have with the rest your fellow new Zune owners there. There's a nice Zune news roundup post here.

Second... shhh... don't tell anyone! We have a limited quantity of official factory-refurbished black Zunes (now aka Zune 30's) to offer effective immediately. Our elite strikeforce of pirate-tongued, ninja-trained negotiation commandos worked their powers of persuasion to obtain every single official factory-refurb Zune 30. No, no blackmail, extortion, or coercion was involved (as far as we know). The point is, you won't see these anywhere else. These units are Microsoft-certified with full accessories, full warranty and even factory fresh retail packaging. And - in an ironic twist you're sure to enjoy - you get the scoop first. In fact, as a previous buyer, we're notifying only you (and your fellow Zune buyers) of a VIP behind-the-scenes event prior to their hopeful full day in the Woot sun: http://www.woot.com/special.aspx?k=vipzune. Slide on in past the velvet rope - these units are available immediately on a first-come, first-served basis at $99.99 each + $5 shipping. Sneak a friend or two in if you want - this is indeed an exciting chance to join the Zune in-crowd, but please, no "Welcome to the Social" jokes. (Unless you're as good at satire as fake steve jobs, that is.) We'll hold this sale open for as long as we can, but as with most Woot items (infocus projectors aside), quantity is limited.

On a final note, I've been asked to forewarn our newest members that the shop may be a bit busy on Friday - not to tip you Wooters Off or anything...

Thanks for your support,

Matt Rutledge
Woot CEO

Man, what a bad day... My Zune is dead I got a defective Zune... This morning Im showing my Zune to my co-worker... We are watching movie for about 4 munites and suddenly it shut off. It's so weird coz i charged it overnight and before i removed the wall charger it shows green bar battery indicator. When i got home, I charged it again and after less than 5 minutes and fully charged again... When i removed the wall charger it shut off again... I can't even reset the damn device coz everything i remove the cable cable charger it keep shutting off... i can't believe this!... Im e-mailed Woot.com and demanding a replacement or give my damn money back... or else i will dispute this to my Credit card company...

This is gonna be my first and last purchase for any high value and refurbished items at Woot. My unit has its screen scratched up all over, not too heavy to the point annoying but definitely not "refurbished" in anyway, except they just pasted a protective plastic on it. I've email Woot and they said contact MS and I guess since it's working MS won't exchange it.......

My screen wasn't badly damaged, but it had a small scuff. They don't have any in their warehouse for exchanges (they don't cross woots so they won't exchange with the ones they are selling today), but you can return it to woot and buy one from today. That's the chance I'm taking. I got my RMA # earlier today.

Though I'd call MS and say I just bought the zune from woot and it came with the screen all scratched up. A refurb should have a new screen. Screen damage is not a cosmetic blem, it directly affects the peformance of the unit as you need to watch the screen. You don't need to watch a slight scuff on the back corner of the casing.

YAY FedEx delivered mine on Saturday and they got stolen. Left right in the apt lobby they were. Obviously it was my fault for being out of town. Thanks fedex you saved me from myself.

Will Woot do anything in these situations, or is it time for a back charged credit card?
Why would you do a charge back? Woot shipped the product and it was delivered. It FedEX's / Apartment Manager's fault for the package being stolen. You should be complaining to FedEx NOT thanking them. You can tell Woot about the situation and I believe they can file a claim with FedEx, and perhaps refund you money or send a replacement.

I don't pay for fed ex so I didn't bother asking. If yours is that badly damaged, I'd first call MS to see what they'll do about it. Their the ones that did the crap job at refurbing it. Then I'd go through MS. Mine was minimal, and I could've gone the MS route first, but I didn't think to.

That was a sarcastic thanks. And in my mind it was all three of their faults. Woot should have done signature service (I would have paid the extra couple bucks), fedex shouldn't have been dumb enough to leave it in the lobby, and the apt mgr should have honored office hours and been in the office. Woot hasn't responded to me yet and a fedex claim takes months, meanwhile I currently have nothing to show for the two hundred dollars that's currently on my CC's. Hence the reasoning to do a charge back if woot doesn't help me out. It's not fair to anyone but eh, what can you do.

Someone needs to create a list with all zune problems from this purchase and post solutions for them if there are solutions...it would really help out the community. Sadly I don't have the time...essays kill.

I hear a lot of complaints here. Check this out. On the side of the box, read what it says:

REFURBISHED
This product has been refurbished to its original specifications for electrical performance. Unit may contain cosmetic imperfections.

I for one have bought refurbs before. I know what i am getting. May be good, may be junk. So the next time ya buy a refurb, think about what you are getting.

I got my "refurbished" Zune and it powered up when it was plugged into my computer, but when not plugged in, it will not power up at all. I e-mailed Woot and they told me to contact Microsoft. Yea, great CS. I will never deal with Woot again. What's the Microsoft number I need to call?
I got the same thing. However, when i e-mailed woot. They gave me RMA # without a postpaid return shipping level... So it means i have to pay it for the shipping which $ucks coz i never wanted to get a defective Zune... I want a refurbished working Zune... I would never buy to woot again... so disappointed...
