Ive heard some opinions on wide screens but never really paid attention.
are they good for movies only or spreadsheets only?

i think some people say its only a benefit if you watch movies and actually takes your net page view smaller?

can someone give me some more educated opinions here?

It all depends on your resolution. This monitor is 1440 x 900. What are you running now? If you are using 1024 x 768, you will gain room. If you are using 1280 x 1024, your will gain length but lose height, etc.
