I was tricked into appliying for a Spirit Mastercard for a $40 instant bonus when i was ordering an air ticket on spirit.com. But since i was not instantly approved, i did not get that bonus, which was the only reason i applied for that card.
![]() Two weeks later i was approved. I jusr received the card. If i don't activate it, would that equal to closing this card? Would you guys suggest me to cancel it directly? Thanks. |

You have a line of credit with that company now regardless of if you use the card. Not using it does not cancel the credit that they have for you. You would need to call them to cancel it which I would suggest you do if they have a membership fee they would charge you.

Be ABSOLUTELY sure you call and cancel. Otherwise you get the membership fee charged. When you have not paid that the first month, you get a $40 late fee added to it plus interest. Also, your interest rate gets jacked up to the legal max.
After a few months you are over your limit, have a 90-day overdue on your credit report and you owe them $1,000. You really owe it to them too, it's not like you can call and complain. Be very careful with cards like this. W |

most the time nothing, you would have to read the very fine print though. If there is a membership fee associated with it Im sure you'd still be charged.

If there is an annual membership fee, cancel it and make sure they state that it is at your request. If there is no membership fee, I'd suggest keeping it open, otherwise you might ding your credit score.

The line of credit is open, that card just can't be used until you verify that you received it. Not activating is not the same as closing.

I agree w/ others who say to actively cancel the card. It could linger out there on your credit rating.
