i was buying these things at geeks.com for $16 geeks dont seem to have many voip phones in stock now i now have a cordless usb phone which i can walk around about 30 feet,i would not buy corded again as your stuck at your computer my friend uses wireless bluetooth handsfree which he loves as for skype it uses a lot of your computer power so i leave it off as it slows your computer down,you can go to tools options and delete proxy settings which helps a bit and dont get the new skype it fills your whole screen
my advice go with cordless option if i had a laptop i would go with a bluetooth headset

Although not particulary cheap, I highly recommend the Philips VOIP841 phone for Skype. Don't have to plug it into your PC, you can just connect it to your network.

Cordless (DECT), good range, great voice quality.

If there is a Sharper Image store still open near you, there may be some left at a reduced price. Otherwise they are around $100.
