**Sold Out** HP-Debranded Athlon 64 X2 2.2ghz Media Machine - 1GB Ram, 250GB SATA & Lightscribe DVD Burner, Firewire, PCI-E, Keyboard, Mouse (No OS) - $218 shipped
Seems like a great deal on a media center PC. This is being advertised a "debranded" HP, which I assume means an HP unit that wasn't sold and had it's operating system removed so it could be resold at wholesale. Throw on a copy of XP Or Ubuntu [ubuntu.com] and you've got a perfectly fast dual core internet/music/movie/game machine for around $200

LINK [geeks.com]

Add to cart and add during regular checkout (not Paypal), enter secret savings code X2DEAL and price of $197.99 will show up. Shipping starts at $20.00 depending on zip code.

Stats:

Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2Ghz Processor
250GB Sata Hard Drive
Sata DVD-RW drive with Lightscribe
1GB of Ram
Integrated audio and video
3 PCI slots
1 PCI-E x16 slot
4 DIMM sockets
6 USB ports
1 Firewire Port
Digital Audio Out

Includes 90 day warranty

Package Contents:

* HP Debranded Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2 GHz Desktop PC
* Keyboard
* Mouse
* Power cord

**UPDATE** You can get Microsoft Cashback for this website. Go through the Computergeeks link below to earn an extra 3% cash back, or $6.60

http://search.live.com/cashback/stores/C

That brings the total to under $212 shipped!

Once you have everything up and running, here is a great (free) program to back up all of your drivers for easy restoration if you ever need to reinstall Windows: http://www.download.com/Driver-Ma...21270.html

Save the program itself along with the backed up drivers to an external USB or CD and you can quickly restore your system if you reformat.

If you are having problems getting sound to work, try this driver:

and everything is working fine.

This appears to be the HP Pavilion Media Center a1610n, though there are several similar models.

Here [hp.com]
is the product info from from HP.
You can download the original drivers here [hp.com]

Some people may receive a slightly different model. Here is one that contains the same case, CPU, 1GB memory, 250GB hard drive, etc..but uses an MSI motherboard instead of an Asus. This is likely the Pavillion a1467 model [hp.com]

It uses slightly different drivers that can be found here. [hp.com]

*edit* It could also be the A1710 [hp.com]

All three models have virtually the same specs. For the technical people, please post what version you receive and what drivers you are using in the Wikipost above to help out other SD'ers

That added up to a little over $300 after rebates, and you have to wait a few months for those rebates (around $80 worth).

No rebates and no time-consuming building hassle with this deal.

One could buy this deal and upgrade the components they don't like. For example, get 2GB (or even 4GB) of RAM and a 500GB hard drive for < $100 and even get some money back by selling the 250GB drive. That's doable even for an "illiterate".

152 eugenile has a spectacular aura about
if you got in on frys selling those abit, msi, ecs am2 boards for $9
the 2.3ghz amd be x2 processor that was selling for $29 shipped by new egg
the thermaltake case for $30 from radioshack that included 400w or 450w powersupply, front panel 4fan control, cupholder and cig lighter port, 120m led fan, slot fan for vga card, 1 black light, 2 cathode lights, nice ide cable and 2-1 molex cable with led, and big blue orb heatsink fan
2gb (1gb x 2) can be found also at frys for $34 no rebate
500gb sata hdd 60-70
sata dvdrw $25-30

thats my setup, i bought the cheapest stuff without rebates cause i hate those, and it still turns out to be better with more OCing capabilities than the this HP.. of course throw in the misc stuff like keyboard, mouse, memory card reader and it prob be real close to the hp price, but choice is clear which wouuld still be a winner,

but this hp is still good for the price, if you werent lucky enough to get all the deals i got to build the cheap system, and don't want to deal with $80-100 rebates
